Abstract:We aimed to observe the continuation of Emergency IUD beyond the index cycle and reasons for removal. We analysed data from the patients’ electronic records of fifty consecutive women who had an IUD fitted at Sexual Health Sheffield for emergency contraception. 48 (96%) women continued with the IUD beyond the index cycle and 31 (62%) women for more than 1 year. Heavy menstrual bleeding, dysmenorrhoea and pain were the most frequent reasons cited for removal.
