Clinical Study of Monofi lament Polyester Hernia Patch in Inguinal Hernia Repair

Objective To verify the safety and effectiveness of "monofilament polyester hernia mesh" in inguinal hernia repair. Methods Thirty patients who underwent unilateral inguinal hernia repair were divided into the experimental group and the control group. The patients in experimental group were treated with polyester hernia patch while those in control group were treated with polypropylene hernia patch. The efficacy, product safety and adverse events were compared between the two groups. Results There was no significant difference in baseline data between two groups (P>0.05). There was no recurrence in both groups during the follow-up of 1~6 months after operation. However, there was significant difference in the postoperative foreign body sensation score and the third month follow-up foreign body sensation score between different two groups (P<0.05). In terms of the postoperative infection rate, reproductive system complications and adverse reactions, there was no statistically significant difference between two groups (P>0.05). Conclusion The curative effect of monofilament polyester hernia patch in inguinal hernia repair is not inferior to polypropylene patch. It is safe and effective to use monofilament lightweight large mesh polyester hernia patch for open surgery in inguinal hernia repair.
