Abstract:
Under physiologic conditions, diverse intestinal flora might enhance host responses againstinvading pathogens. However, intestinal flora might be disturbed and collapsed in sepsis which will result in poorprognosis. How to alleviate the intestinal flora dysbiosis and therefore to improve the survival rate of patients withsepsis has drawn growing attention. Omega-3 polyunsaturated fatty acids have become one of the research highlightsdue to their immunomodulatory and anti-inflammatory effects. This article mainly reviews the characteristics ofsepsis-related intestinal microbial dysbiosis and possible roles of omega-3 polyunsaturated fatty acids in amelioratingsepsis-related intestinal microbial dysbiosis, in order to provide a new insight into the treatment of sepsis.
