Abstract: | beta-Cells may be demonstrated in pancreas sections as well as in monolayer cultures. Until now, however, it has been impossible to differentiate quickly among individual cell types in freshly dissociated cell suspensions prepared for pancreatic monolayer cultures. Rapid identification of endocrine cells within the total cell population can be achieved by means of vital staining with neutral red. Moreover, the direct observation of unfixed and unstained cell suspensions under dark-field illumination allows an immediate identification of granulated beta-cells. |
