Abstract:
Objective: To investigate and analyze the current status of drug manipulation for pediatric oral dosing in China, to understand the categories and specifications of the most frequent drug manipulation in clinic, so as to provide suggestions for improving the current status of drug manipulation. Methods: Questionnaire survey was used to collect the medical orders of oral drugs for children from 30 hospitals in China in Dec. 2019, and statistical analysis was performed in terms of drug categories, number of medical orders, specifications of drug manipulation and most urgent needs, etc. Results: Totally 16 categories, 282 kinds of drug manipulation for pediatric oral dosing were collected. The most frequently categories of drug manipulation for pediatric oral dosing were anti-infective drugs, digestive system drugs and cardiovascular system drugs. The most frequently drugs of drug manipulation for pediatric oral dosing were spironolactone tablets, potassium chloride tablets and furosemide tablets. The most frequently specifications of drug manipulation for pediatric oral dosing were 1/2, 1/4 and 1/5, the specifications of 1/2, 1/3, 1/4 and 1/5 were most commonly wanted. Spironolactone tablets, furosemide tablets and other 7 kinds of drugs not only had a large workload in drug manipulation, but the minimum drug manipulation specification was less than or equal to 1/20. Conclusion: The widespread phenomenon of drug manipulation for pediatric oral dosing reflects the lack of appropriate drugs for children in China. In order to ensure the safety, effectiveness and accessibility of drugs for children, the work of drug manipulation requires the cooperation of government, enterprises, universities, research institutions and hospitals.
