Influence of mycoplasma genitalium infection on semen quality in male infertility

Objective To retrospectively investigate the influence of mycoplasma genitalium(MG)infection on semen quality of male infertile.Methods 383 male infertility patients diagnosed in the Reproductive and Genetic Institute of Chongqing Health Center for Women and Children from July 2017 to July 2019 were selected as the subjects,and divided into infected group(n=54)and uninfected group(n=329)according to MG infection.Mg RNA in semen was detected by nucleic acid amplification test.The semen volume,sperm concentration,total sperm count,PR,NR,total motility and morphology of sperm were measured according to the WHO Laboratory Manual for Human Semen Examination and Treatment(5th Edition).Sperm DNA fragmentation index(DFI)and sperm high DNA stain index(HDS)were determined by flow cytometry.Results PR and sperm motility in the infected group were lower than those in the uninfected group,and the difference was statistically significant(P<0.05).There were no significant differences in semen volume,sperm concentration,total sperm count and NR between the two groups(P>0.05).There was no significant difference in the percentage of normal sperm,head sperm,neck and middle sperm,tail sperm,TZI and SDI between the two groups(P>0.05).There was no significant difference in DFI and HDS between the two groups(P>0.05).Conclusions Mycoplasma genitalium infection significantly reduced sperm motility in infertile men,but had no significant effect on other semen parameters.
