Abstract: | The influence of some cytostatic agents (the antibiotic daunomycin, the polypeptide peptikemio and the nitrosourea derivative BCNU) on the antinociceptive effect of morphine is here investigated. It is demonstrated that daunomycin and peptikemio significantly enhance morphine-induced analgesia, while on the other hand, BCNU is ineffective. Daunomycin neither prevents morphine binding to blood proteins nor facilitates its access to the brain. A role of calcium ions in daunomycin potentiating effect is suggested. |
