Abstract: | The role of steroid hormones has been suggested in the growth of malignant melanoma, and since aromatase activity has been found in melanoma tissue, we carried out a phase II study of aminoglutethimide, an aromatase inhibitor in malignant melanoma patients. Fifteen heavily pretreated patients entered the study. No response was observed--the treatment was well tolerated. We concluded that aminoglutethimide is very unlikely to be useful in melanoma patients. |
