AFFECTIVE PSYCHOSISA FOLLOW-UP, RETROSPECTIVE CLASSIFICATION AND HEREDOFAMILIAL STUDY

A follow-up, retrospective classification andheredofamilial study on affective psychosis isreported. Since 1958 704 cases (1.2'70 0f the totaladmissions) of affective psychosis have been en-countered, with 595 cases followed up for 11years in average. In this study, a series of cases were classifi-ed into unipolar and bipolar types basing uponcase histories and long-term follow-up results. 294 0ut of 704 cases had positive history ofmental disorders among their relatives. Highincidence of schizophrenia among the psychoticrelatives can hardly be interpreted as accidental.A possible model of inheritance of affective dis-orders is proposed.
