EFFECTS OF NICOTINAMIDE ON CARDIAC A-VCONDUCTION AND FUNCTION OF SINUS NODE IN ISOLATED HEARTS
Abstract:
The actions of nicotinamide (NA) on A-V con-duction and heart rate were studied in isolated heartsof rabbits and guinea pigs. NA (20-40 mg) couldmarkedly improve the first to third degree A-Vblock and the depression of heart rate, caused byperfusion with verapamil-containing solution (120ug/L) or MriS04 (90mg/L).containing Locke's solution, and by rapid injection of ouabain (40 vg). NA(2 mg/ml) given in perfusion of the isolated heartalso partially prevented the intraventricular blockinitiated by rapid injection of procainamide. Theseresults suggest that NA may be efficacious in thetreatment of A-V block or dysfunction of sinus node.
