Abstract: | ![]() Continuous ambulatory peritoneal dialysis (CAPD)-associated peritonitis remains a major cause of morbidity in the dialysis population. Typically, infection is caused by gram positive bacteria and treated with empiric antibiotics. A subset of patients, however, develop culture negative peritonitis and may be infected with fungal or mycobacterial organisms. We present a case of Mycobacterium avium complex-associated peritonitis in a HIV negative patient on CAPD. Our patient suffered from technique failure and died from unrelated causes before treatment could be completed. |
