One hundred and seven patients suffered from corpulmonary disease (COPD) complicated by respiratory failure were admitted to the intensive care unit of our dopartment in Dec. 1977 to May 1990. In view of the main causes of death were systemic failure, complications of artificial airway and respiratory failure, thus active comprehensive management including nutritional therapy, fluid and electrolyte balance, rational care of artificial airway, prevention and treatment of infection and rehabilitation training, etc. is further enhanced in recent years. The mortality rate of respiratory failure in COPD patients treated wtih ventilator was reduced from 63.9% to 25.0% in recent 4 years. |
