Abstract: |
- 1.1. An intestinal biopsy capsule triggered by suction and capable of reaching any portion of the gastrointestinal tract has been employed in sixty-three attempts to obtain biopsy specimens from thirty-eight patients. There were twenty-two failures, but the incidence of failure decreased with increasing experience in use of the instrument.
- 2.2. The specimen is a 7 mm. disk of mucosa which, if properly processed, yields histological preparations free of traumatic or postmortem changes, and qualitatively superior to previously available material.
- 3.3. Illustrative photomicrographs are included.
