ULTRASTRUCTURAL INVESTIGATION OF LYMPHATIC CAPILLARIES OF THE DIAPHRAGMA IN RAT

Ultrastructure of the lymphatic capillaries of the diaphragma in rat were studied with electron microscopy. Endothelial cells were found to be thin, non - fenestrated and lacking of pericytes and a continuous basal lamina. The endothelial cells were joined to each other in three basic types of intercellular junctions: overlapping type(53.2%), end-to-end type(20.3%) and interdigitating type (12.5%). In addition, there were some variant intercellular junctions, such as end - to - lateral type (3%), open junction(>30nm)(11%) and adherent type(5.4%). Large amounts of vesicles were present within the cytoplasma. The distribution of the vesicles was as follows: opened onto or touched the abluminal surfaces, opened onto or touched the luminal surfaces without visible connection to either surface. Vesicles was diveded into uncoated and coated vesicles.
