Abstract:Objective:To observe the effect of common cold on the risk of cancer. Methods:From January 2021 to May 2021,we identified 532 patients with cancer who visited general hospitals and community hospitals as a case group and 532 participants without cancer matching by age, gender and region of residency as a control group.Clinical data were obtained by questionnaire survey and medical records.Univariate, and multivariate analyses were used for statistical analysis. Results:The results showed that there was significant difference in the frequency of cold between the two groups(P<0.05)in univariate analysis. In multivariate analysis, compared with participants who with less than one time cold per year, one time cold per year(OR=0.461,95%CI:0.327~0.649),two times colds per year(OR=0.224,95%CI:0.145~0.347),and three or more times colds per year(OR=0.092,95%CI:0.046~0.182)associated with decreased risk of cancer. Conclusion:The results suggest that a certain frequency of common cold could be associated with a reduced risk of cancer.
Keywords:common cold   risk of cancer   matched case-control study
