Thrombolytic Therapy for Acute Ischemic Stroke

Thrombolytic therapy for acute ischemic stroke is a hotspot in current medical study. The recent studies have shown that the therapeutic time window (TTW) for thrombolytic therapy should be individualized. New imaging techniques are helpful in identifying ischemic penumbra and the selection of patients for thrombolytic therapy. The methods of thrombolytic therapy include intravenous thrombolysis, intra-arterial thrombolysis, and a combination of both. The factors that influence the thrombolysis include the time from symptom onset to beginning of thrombolysis, baseline characteristics of patients, thrombolytic agents and drug combination, the performance of the selection criteria of patients and treatment protocol, and whether patients were monitored in stroke unit.
