Analysis of Ketamine Combined with Propofol Anesthesia in Pediatric Patients Undergoing Day Surgery of Ophthalmology and Otorhinolaryngology

[Objective] To explore the feasibility and safety of ketamine combined with propofol anesthesia in pediat- ric patients undergoing day surgery of ophthalmology and otorhinolaryngology. [Methods] The anesthesia records of 358 pediatric patients undergoing day surgery of ophthalmology and otorhinolaryngology were analyzed retrospectively. Intra- venous infusion of ketamine 2mg/kg and propofol 2mg/kg was used for the induction of anesthesia. The anesthesia was maintained with intermittent intravenous infusion of ketamine 1mg/kg and continuous intravenous infusion of propofol 6 mg/（kg · h）. Vital signs and adverse effects before induction（T1 ）, after induction（T2 ）, in the begin of operation（T3 ） and at the end of operation（T4 ） were analyzed. [Results] After anesthesia induction, HR, SBP and DBP were higher than the baseline（ P 〈0.05）. However, the difference had no statistical significance among T2-4. Complications included 5 cases of apnea（1.4%）, 1 case of glossocoma（0.28%）, 2 cases of convulsion（0.56%）, 8 cases of nausea and vomit （2.23%） and 4 eases of urticaria（1.12%）. [Conclusion] Ketamine combined with propofol can provide complete effects of sedation and analgesia, so it can be safely and effectively used in pediatric day surgery of ophthalmology and otorhinolaryngology.
