Effect of zinc supplementation combined with racecadotril granules on blood zinc and immune function in children with rotavirus enteritis

Objective To observe the effects of zinc supplementation combined with racecadotril granules on blood zinc and immune function in children with rotavirus enteritis(RVE).Methods A total of 106 children with RVE admitted to our hospital from August 2016 to July 2019 were selected,and they were divided into two groups according to the random number method,with 53 cases in each group.The control group received conventional therapy,based on which the observation group was additionally administrated with zinc gluconate syrup and racecadotril granules,for 7 days as a course of treatment and 2 treatment courses in total.The improvement time of clinical symptoms and signs,changes of blood zinc,immune function indicator levels,and adverse reactions were compared between the two groups.Results The correction time of antipyretic,vomit-stopping,antiemetic,and dehydration in the observation group was significantly shorter than that in the control group,with a statistically significant difference(P<0.05).Before treatment,there were no statistically significant differences in levels of blood zinc,immunoglobulin A(IgA),immunoglobulin M(IgM),and immunoglobulin G(IgG)between the two groups(P>0.05).After 2 courses of treatment,the levels of blood zinc,IgA,IgM,and IgG in the observation group were higher than those in the control group,with statistically significant differences(P<0.05).There was no statistically significant difference in the incidence of adverse reactions between the two groups(P>0.05).Conclusion On the basis of conventional treatment,zinc supplementation combined with racecadotril granules for children with rotavirus enteritis is beneficial to accelerate symptoms relief,increase blood zinc level,enhance immune function,and promote recovery.
