Observation on the Efficacy of Hyperbaric Oxygen for the Treatment of Arousal Impairment of Severe Craniocerebral Injury

Abstract:Objective]To explore the early rehabilitation effect of hyperbaric oxygenation(HBO) on brain arousal in severe craniocerebral injury. Methods] Totally 122 cases of severe craniocerebral injury were randomly divided into the observation group and the control group with 61 cases in each group. Based on the conventional nursing care in neurosurgery, the control group was given acupuncture treatment(mainly the points of shuigou, Neiguan and Sanyinjiao). The observation group additionally received HBO on the basis of the treatment of the control group. Thirty days later, the arousal rate from coma, arousal time and clinical efficacy were compared between two groups. Results]The arousal rate from coma was 83.6% (51/61) in observation group, which was higher than that in control group(59.0 % ), and there was significant difference between two groups( P 〈0.01). The arousal time in observation group was shortened remarkably as compared with control group( P 〈0. 01), and the clinical efficacy was superior apparently to that in control group ( P 〈0.01). Conclusion] On the basis of conventional treatment and acupuncture therapy, HBO intervention at early stage can accelerate the recovery of brain arousal function in patients with severe craniocerebral injury.
