Relationship Between Psychology Status and Immunologic Function in Patients with Nasopharyngeal Carcinoma

Objective To investigate the relationship between psychology status and immunologic function in patients with nasopharyngeal carcinoma during radiotherapy. Methods Sixty patients who were primarily diagnosed as nasopharyngeal carcinoma were enrolled in this study.Their anxiety and depression were evaluated by self rating anxiety scale(SAS) and self rating depression scale(SDS) respectively before and after radiotherapy,and serum white blood cell and total lymphocyte were measured too. Results There were significant differences in the changes of anxiety status,depression status,white blood cell level and total lymphocyte level before and after radiotherapy(P<0.01).The change of anxiety scale score was significantly associated with the change of white blood cell levels(rs=0.742,P<0.001). Conclusion For the patients with nasopharyngeal carcinoma,anxiety emotion arising in radiotherapy may influence their immune function.
