Pathological analysis of 1 148 renal biopsies collected in Xinjiang area

Objective： To analyze the characteristics of renal biopsies in regard to region and nationality so as to provide useful information for specific diagnosis and treatment of kidney diseases. Methods： The pathological data of 1 148 renal cases collected from the First Affiliated Hospital of Xinjiang Medical University were retrospectively analyzed. Results： Primary glomerulonephritis accounted for 76.1% （874/1 148 cases）, in them rnesangial proliferative glomerulonephritis （MsPGN） and IgA nephropathy were the commonest. The incidence of secondary glomerulonephritis was 13.0% （149/1 148 cases）, in which the most common pathological type was lupus nephritis（51.7%）. No significant differences were found between Han and Uygur nationalities in the incidence of all pathologic types （P〈 0.05）. Primary glomerulonephritis was mainly found in male patients （ male/female ratio equal to 1.17 ： 1）, while secondary glomerulonephritis occured more common in females （male/female ratio equal to 0.56 ： 1 ,P 〈0. 05）. For primary glomerulonephritis, in Uygur nationality it was mainly found in the age group of 20-29 years, and it was significantly earlier than that in Han nationality, as it mainly occurred in the age group of 30-39 years （P〈0.05）. Conclusion： Primary glomerulonephritis is the most prevalent type of renal disease, and MsPGN is the most common pathological type. It mainly occurs in men. Lupus nephritis is the most common pathological type of secondary glomerulonephritis, which is prevalent in women. The age of patients suffering from primary glomerulonephritis is significantly younger in Uygur nationality than that in Han patients.
