Adrenocortical Function in Adolescent with Simple Obesity

The circadian rhythm of plasma total cortisol(PTC)levels and urinary free cortisol(UFC)were determined, and dexamethasone supressive screening test was performed in 32 cases of adolescent with simple obesity.The results showed that:(1) The circadian rhythm of PTC was abnormal in extent and type in 21 cases,(2) The UFC and dexamethasone suppressive screening test were normal in all cases.These indicated that the adrenocortical function in 65.6% of the adolescent with simple obesity was hyperactive,but highly sensitive to the nerative freedback suppressive effect of of dexamethasone.The differenence in adrenocortical function in cases of simple obesity from that in normal adolescent and adolescent with Cushing's syndrome was discussed.
