Abstract: | Study of lymphoid organs and T and B cells in white rats shows that long-term stress causes progressive suppression of the immune response. Blockade of steroid hormone synthesis in the adrenal cortex prevents the development of immunodepression, implying a protective effect of such a blockade against stress-related secondary immunodeficiency.
