Effects of PDCA cycle-based nursing on quality of life and complications in patients undergoing radical surgery for pancreatic cancer

Objective To investigate the impact of plan-do-check-act( PDCA) cycle-based nursing on the quality of life,complications and patient satisfaction in patients undergoing radical surgery for pancreatic cancer. Methods From February 2018 to February 2020,84 patients with pancreatic cancer undergoing radical surgery at the first general ward of Xi’an Third Hospital were selected. They were randomly divided into an observation group and a control group with 42 patients in each group. The observation group was given PDCA cycle-based nursing besides conventional nursing and the control group was given routine care. Quality of life,complication and nursing satisfaction were compared between the two groups.Results There was no statistically significant difference in the scores of quality of life including physical function,psychological function,social function and emotional function between the two groups before nursing( P > 0. 05). After nursing,the scores of each item decreased in the two groups compared with before nursing,and the observation group was lower than the control group( all P < 0. 05). The incidence of postoperative complications was 7. 1% in the observation group which was lower than 23. 8% of the control group( P < 0. 05). The overall satisfaction rate was 95. 2% in the observation group which was higher than81. 0% of the control group( P < 0. 05). Conclusion PDCA cycle-based nursing can improve postoperative quality of life,reduce complications and improve patient satisfaction with nursing in patients undergoing radical operation for pancreatic cancer with positive promotion value.
