Study on development and evaluation of a questionnaire on leisure activities of the elderly in China

Objective:To develop a questionnaire on leisure activities for the elderly in China and test its reliability and validity.Methods:The types and dimensions of common leisure activities of the Chinese elderly were determined through literature review,and preliminary items were screened through Delphi method.Then by comparing the weight scores of each item in three dimensions among 5 members of the research group and 14 elderly people,a consensus score was formed,and after small sample preliminary investigation we determined the draft of the questionnaire.252 elderly people in the community were surveyed with the preliminary questionnaire to measure the reliability and validity of the questionnaire.Results:The questionnaire on leisure activities of Chinese elderly includes three dimensions,namely physical activity,social activity and cognitive activity,with a total of 21 items.The content validity index I-CVI of each item was between 0.85~1,and the content validity index of the total questionnaire(S-CVI)was 0.973.The cronbach’αcoefficient of physical,social and cognitive dimensions was 0.625,0.605 and 0.625 respectively.The cronbach’αcoefficient of the total questionnaire was 0.856.Conclusion:The leisure activity questionnaire for the elderly in China of the institute has good reliability and validity,easy understanding and short time consuming,which is suitable for evaluating the level of participation in leisure activities of the elderly in China.
