Clinical research and operation characteristics on surgical treatment for elderly breast cancer

Objective To investigate the clinical characteristics of elderly breast cancer and surgical methods of treatment and efficacy.Methods A retrospective analysis was carried out in our hospital from July 2007 to July 2008 and 80 cases of elderly breast cancer patients were selected and divided into two groups by random sampling method,the 40 patients in control group underwent modified radical mastectomy.40 patients of experimental group underwent breast-conserving surgery.Up to 3 years after treatment,complications and surgical prognosis of patients in two groups were observed after surgery.Results The two groups were compared after treatment,the operation time,hospitalization time,blood loss and complication rate of experimental group were better than those of the control group (P＜ 0.05),and the local recurrence,distant metastasis,3 year survival rates were 2.5％,2.5％,97.5％ respectively,also better than those of the control group (5.0％,5.0％,85％),the difference was statistically significant (P＜0.05).Conclusion Early-line treatment for elderly breast-conserving surgery can significantly improve the patients' indications for surgery,reducing its long-term recurrence rate and transfer rate helping to improve the quality of life of patients.
