| Abstract: | Objective To study the relationship between depression and cognitive impairment in the elderly living at home in the community.Methods From April 9 to June 15,2020,842 elderly people who received physical examination in a community in Shanghai were selected as the research subjects.Their depression status was assessed by the Geriatric Depression Scale(GDS),and their cognitive function was assessed by theMini-Mental State Examination Scale(MMSE).Results It was found that the MMSE score of depression group decreased(P=0.005),which indicated that there was a correlation between depression and cognitive impairment.Further analysis of each item of MMSE showed that delayed recall,visuospatial perception and writing ability had great influence on cognitive function.The differences rate between the depression group and the normal group in the above three items of the MMSE scores were 30%,21%,and 16%,respectively.Conclusion In the health examination of the elderly living at home in the community,mental health scale examination is conducive to the early detection of patients with cognitive impairment,and can provide the basis for the necessary early health education and guidance. |
