Abstract:Tumor-associated macrophages(TAMs)are one of the most principal immune cell populations in tumor microenvironment which play an important role in tumor growth,angiogenesis and treatment,etc.TAMs in tumor microenvironment were considered to originate from circulating monocyte precursors exclusively.However,recent studies have demonstrated that tissue resident macrophages deriving from the embryonic yolk sac and fetal liver can also differentiate into TAMs in tumor microenvironment.It is currently believed that TAMs renews itself mainly through cell proliferation.This review summarized the origin,differentiation and role of this group of TAMs in tumor microenvironment.
