Abstract:
Rats were fed a fat mixture containing a low level of (n-3) polyunsaturated fatty acids, linseed oil or marine oil. The arachidonic acid in cardiac tissue was depressed by (n-3) linolenic acid and further depressed by (n-3) polyunsaturated fatty acids of marine oil. Docosahexaenoic acid was the principal replacement for arachidonic acid.
