Analysis of curative effect on tympanosclerosis

OBJECTIVE To introduce different operations for tympanosclerosis and evaluate the relationship between these operations and their curative effects on patients.METHODS Clinical data of 481 cases of tympanosclerosis were retrospectively reviewed.Ossicular chain reconstruction were conducted after removing focal tympanosclerosis in different positions.The first check-up was done at 1-3months after leaving hospital,the second check-up was at 6-12 months,the last follow-up result was taken as the final result（taking the mean value of language frequency at the level of 0.5,1.0,2.0,4.0 kHz HL）.RESULTS Air-bone gap of 481 cases of tympanosclerosis preoperatively and postoperatively were（39.74±12.54）dB and（20.68 ±11.80）dB respectively,P0.01.Accroding to the evaluation standard,successful operative ears were 202（41.9%）,effective operative ears were 134（27.8%）,the overall response rate was 69.7%（336 ears）.After following-up of 3-24 months,the final air-bone gap was（20.67±13.52）dB compared with that of preoperation,P 0.01.CONCLUSION The main method for tympanosclerosis is operation,style of operation depends on range and extend of tympanosclerosis.According to our statistics,artificial ossicular chain reconstruction can be applied on those tympanosclerosis surpassing modi？ed type II,and long-term effects of arti？cial auditory ossicles implanting operation is better.For patients with fixed stapes footplate,fenestra technique or stapedectomy can be applied on phase II,but the long-term effects of these operations need to be evaluated further.
