| Abstract: | Insulin resistance is the fundamental defect of type 2 diabetes and often leads to hyperinsulinemia, which is associated with atherosclerosis and cardiovascular events. A multidisciplinary approach involving multifaceted therapeutic strategies is necessary to reduce cardiovascular events and to improve prognosis in these patients. The purpose of this review is to outline proven and promising therapeutic strategies for improving the long term cardiovascular prognosis of patients with type 2 diabetes. |
