Abstract:
Cell population in bronchoalveolar lavage fluid (BALF) of immunocompromised mice was compared with that of normal mice during the early stage of airborne Klebsiella pneumoniae (K. P.) infection. Five mice in study group and 5 normal mice were lavaged at O, 3rd, 9th, 24th, 48th and 72nd hour respectively after infection. In study group, the number of recoverable total cells (TC), pulmonary alveolar macrophages (PAM), polymorphonuclear leukocytes (PMN), and lymphocytes was markedly decreased at 3rd, 24th, and 48th hour (P<0.001). The peak number of those cells was delayed 72nd hour, of PMN at 72nd hour was almost the same as that at 48th hour in normal mice (P>0.05), of PAM was significantly decreased (P<0.05) and of lymphocytes was significantly increased (P<0.05). The result suggested that there was a close relationship between antigen or inflammatory substance, and inflammatory and immunocompetent cells.
