Morphometric age-related changes in nuclear volume and neuron numbers in the hypothalamic suprachiasmatic nuclei(SCN)of rats at different age were studied with light microscopy. The reduction in adult one was statistically significant, whereas not in the senile one, (2) No statistically significant alternation in the numbers of SCN neurons appeared among young, adult and senile animal groups though they declined progressively within the three age stages, All these findings indicated that the SCN was a relatively stable neuron population and could hardly show the significant aging changes like neuron loss in other brain areas. |
