Abstract:Objective:To investigate the correlation between the changes of the Saliva flow rates and composition of the saliva and the amount of the bacteria in the mixed saliva Methods:This study included 29 patients with non neoplastic diseases of parotid glands and 10 normal controls The unstimulated and stimulated whole saliva flow rates and the content of the salivary immunoglobulins in the unstimulated and stimulated total saliva were detected The mixed saliva was collected and cultured to determine the amount of the aerobic and anaerobic bacteria Results:A highly significant negative correlation was found either between the unstimulated whole saliva flow rate and the amount of the aerobes in the mixed saliva or between the unstimulated SIgA secretory rate and the amount of the aerobes and anaerobes in the mixed saliva Conclusion:This study indicated that there was a significant correlation between the changes of whole saliva flow rates or salivary immunoglobulins and the amount of the bacteria in the mixed saliva
Keywords:Bacteria Immunoglobulins Saliva Salivary gland
