Abstract: | Patients with chronic renal failure and uremia have impaired host defenses and wound healing that can lead to an increased risk of infection in addition to a frequent need for surgical procedures with synthetic grafts and catheters. Antibiotic therapy plus timely surgical intervention in removal of infected grafts and catheters is crucial for infection control and patient survival. Other surgical infections, such as wound problems, intraabdominal infections, fungal infections, diabetic foot ulcers, and necrotizing soft tissue infections must be attended to promptly. |
