Curative effect comparison of nasal endoscopic radiofrequency ablation and bipolar coagulaxion in treatment of chronic hypertrophic rhinitis

Objective: To compare the efficacy and complications of nasal endoscopic low-temperature plasma radiofrequency ablation and bipolar electric coagulation in treatment of chronic hypertrophic rhinitis.Methods: 40 chronic hypertrophic rhinitis patients were treated by radiofrequency ablation and another 40 by bipolar electrocoagulation.After operation,all patients were followed up for 6 months.The compliant of nasal obstruction was evaluated by visual analogue scale(VAS) before the treatment and 6 months after operation.Complications such as pain and nose bleeding during operation,and nasal adherence after operation were observed during the follow-up period.Results: The patients who received radiofrequency ablation or bipolar electrocoagulation were all effective.The differences of VAS scores before and after operation were statistically significant in both groups(P<0.05).1 nasal adherence occurred in radiofrequency ablation group and 8 in bipolar electrocoagulation group.Bleeding was more in radiofrequency ablation group than in bipolar electrocoagulation group,The VAS scores of pain were 1.43±0.12 and 2.20±0.18.The difference of complications between the 2 groups was insignificant(P<0.05).Conclusion: Radiofrequency ablation and bipolar electrocoagulation are all effective for chronic hypertrophic rhinitis.The former are with little complication.
