| Abstract: | Many cardiovascular diseases are associated with disorders of iron homeostasis. Iron deficiency commonly occurs in patients with heart failure and in patients with pulmonary hypertension. In contrast, iron overload is an independent risk factor for the development of coronary artery disease. This article reviews disorders of iron homeostasis in heart failure, pulmonary hypertension, and coronary artery disease, as well as the probable mechanisms. |
