A semi-structured interview on psychological stressors of first-line nurses to Hubei during the outbreak of coronavirus disease 2019

Objective To understand the psychological stressors of nurses in the first-line to Hubei during the outbreak of coronavirus disease 2019,and to provide reference for the management of subsequent isolation wards and the formulation of appropriate psychological decompression measures.Methods Using the phenomenological research method of qualitative research,10 nurses of different ages who assisted in Hubei were interviewed by face-to-face semi-structured interviews,and the interview data were analyzed and summarized using Colaizzi 7 step analysis method.Results The psychological stressors of nurses in the medical aid team to Hubei were divided into three stages during the period of fight against the coronavirus disease 2019:eight nurses had the stress response in the early stage of entering the isolation ward;during the period of the psychological reaction of working in the isolation ward,three nurses felt unfamiliar and four nurses felt anxious;during the psychological state of working and living in Wuhan,three nurses felt lonely and two nurses felt exhausted.Conclusions The psychological stressors of first-line nurses to Hubei were different in different stages during the period of fight against coronavirus disease 2019.The nursing managers can provide targeted psychological stress interventions to first-line nurses based on this feature combined with the actual situation and improve their psychological stress resistance during the epidemic.
