Analysis of abnormal ultrasonic cardiography in adolescent spinal deformity patients:a comparison between idiopathic scoliosis and congenital scoliosis

Background:Abnormal ultrasonic cardiography(UCG)results could be found in spinal deformity patients,while there were few reports focused on the comparison of this difference between idiopathic scoliosis(IS)and congenital scoliosis(CS)patients.Objective:To compare the differences of the abnormal founding of UCG between adolescent IS and CS patients.Methods:UCG results of adolescent IS and CS patients who underwent surgical treatment in our hospital between January2016 and December 2018 were retrospectively reviewed.Results:Totally,452 patients were enrolled in this study,including313 IS and 139 CS patients.There were 99(31.6%)abnormal UCG results in IS patients and 36(25.9%)in CS patients(P=0.265).Valvular abnormalities were found in 84 IS patients and 24 CS patients(P=0.031).Non-valvular abnormalities were found in 15 IS patients and 12 CS patients(P=0.132).There were no significant differences of abnormal UCG founding between males and females,between thoracic curve and lumbar curve,between left sided curve and right sided curve in IS patients and CS patients(P>0.05).Conclusions:The incidence of UCG abnormality is similar in adolescent IS and CS patients.Valvular abnormalities are more common in IS patients.Gender,curve location and curve direction has no influences on the abnormal UCG founding between IS and CS patients.
