Abstract: | A programme is described in which indigenous personnel are trained to provide culturally appropriate rehabilitation services for islanders of the Pacific Basin. The disabling conditions most commonly dealt with are associated with stroke, diabetes, arthritis, trauma, and back and neck pain. The programme could be adapted to meet needs in other remote rural communities lacking suitably trained carers. |
