The acceleration of coronary stenosis after coronary arteriography using ionic contrast medium ( loglicate 370 mgl/ml ) in 50 patients ( 39 males and 11 females, ages 27-65 years ) was compared with that using non-ionic contrast medium ( lopromide 370 mgl/ml ) in 35 patients ( 27 males and 8 females, ages 27-68 years).It was found that the side effects of ionic contrast medium were more severe than those of the non-ionic ( P<0.05 ) in accelerating the development of coronary stenosis. It is believed that the higher osmosis and the electronegative and chemical toxicities of iodine of the ionic contrast medium are responsible for the higher acceleration. |
