Abstract: | In a randomized multi-centre clinical trial the efficacy and tolerance of a herbal product Atrisin three capsules/day was evaluated in 65 patients (31 male, 34 female) suffering from osteoarthritis and rheumatoid arthritis, during a period of 2 months. Assessment of pain and functional disability were made on a 10 cm horizontal visual analogue scale. The severity of osteoarthritis was evaluated by Lequesne's index.Spontaneous pain showed significant improvement. Similarly there was progressive and significant reduction in the Lequesne's functional index. At the completion of the study patients taking Atrisin were using less NSAIDs. Atrisin was tolerated well by the patients and there were no adverse cardiovascular or gastric effects reported. There was feeling of general well-being and compliance by the patients. |
