Evaluation of efficacy and side effects of cyclophosphamide in the treatment of lupus nephritis

Aim To explore the effectiveness and side effects of intravenous cyclophosphamide with oral prednisone in the treatment of lupus nephritis.Methods 32 patients with lupus nephritis were selected randomly and followed up 48 week,who were treated with CYC at a dosage of 0.75 g·m-2 BSA（0.6～1.0 g）once every month or 0.6 g once every two weeks for at least 6 months.At the same time,all patients were treated with oral prednisone.The starting dose of prednisone was 1.0 mg·kg-1·d-1（40～60 mg·d-1）,and then gradually reduced by 10 mg·d-1.A series of experimental data were observed before and after treatment.Results After 48 weeks the 24-hour urine protein,ESR,anti-double-stranded DNA antibody positive rate,anti-C1q antibodies positive rate,AnuA positive rate and SLEDAI score were decreased significantly.Remission rate was 78.1 percent.It could tolerate the side effects.Conclusion Intravenous cyclophosphamide with oral prednisone in the treatment of lupus nephritis is safe and effective.
