Abstract:
Objective To investigate the actualities of primary dysmenorrhea (PM) and the impact of lifestyle on PM among female college students in Guangzhou City so as to provide references for developing the targeted intervention measures. Methods We randomly selected half of the dormitories in a university in Guangzhou City, extracted the floors by using a simple random number method, and then conducted on-the-spot surveys on May 10-17,2014. Results Among the 800 girls surveyed, the prevalence of PM was 60.50%. Single factor analysis and multivariate logistic regression analysis revealed that taking cold drink during menstruation or 1 week before and after menstruation(OR=2.41(1.21,4.78),P=0.012), monophagia(OR=1.38(1.03,1.87),P=0.032), eating raw or cold food during menstruation(OR=1.40(1.02,1.92),P=0.035) were the main factors for the occurrence of PM. Conclusions PM is relatively common in females in a college in Guangzhou in 2014, and it is correlated with eating raw or cold food during menstruation and monophagia. The university should pay special attention to lifestyle interventions among female college students and conduct prevention-oriented interventions in female students without dysmenorrhea as well as the targeted interventions on dysmenorrhea relief in female students with dysmenorrhea.
