Research progress in oral drug preparation of paclitaxel

Objective Conventional paclitaxel preparations are injections that use Cremophor-EL and ethanol to improve their solubility,leading to severe hypersensitivity,neutropenia and other adverse reactions.This brings great inconvenience to the patients.The new generation of paclitaxel preparations-Abraxane is free of Cremophor-EL and ethanol,but still needs frequent intravenous infusion,and the preparation and preservation process is extremely expensive.Oral administration is the most commonly used route of drug administration.Compared with intravenous administration,oral administration can enable patients to take their own medicine,thus reducing the cost of health care and improving patient compliance.Therefore,oral paclitaxel has great development value and challenge.This review mainly introduces the oral delivery system of paclitaxel and the challenge of oral paclitaxel.
