Abstract: | Experiments on restrained rats showed thatthe pain responses thrcsholds {tail-flick andvocalization) induced by rioxious, stimuli wereincreased markedly after clectroacupuncturc.Following electrolytic lcsions or specific 5-HTneuronal intoxication by 5,6-dihydroxytrypta-mine in nucleus raphe magnus, dorsalis or me-dianus, the acupuncture effects wcre significantlyreduced on the early postoperative days. It isinferred that the rauhe serotonergic system mayplay an important role in the analgesic cffect ofacupuncture. A neural mechanisrrt iii acupunc-ture analgesia is hypothesized |
