Abstract:To develop ideal artificial bone for accelerating the process of repairing segment defect of long bone. Methods: After bone morphogenetic protein (BMP) was combined with porous complex ceramic (PCC) artificial bone,BMP/PCC complex artificial bone was prepared. BMP/PCC and PCC artificial bone were used in the comparative study of repairing the segment defects of radius diaphysis in rabbits. The samples were harvested in 2,4,8 and 12 weeks, and were then examined by gross, histomorphological analysis, quantitative analysis of new bone formation and biomechanical measurement. Results:The new bone in BMP/PCC artificial bone was more than that in PCC artificial bone. At 12 weeks after operation, the bending strength of the radius in BMP/PCC side was stronger than that in PCC side. Conclusion: BMP/PCC artificial bone could accelerate the repairment of segment defect of long bone. It was an ideal artificial bone substitute.
Keywords:Bone repair Bone defect  Artificial bone substitute
