Abstract: | A method for determination of megakaryocyte-platelet regeneration time (MPT) based on measurement of the rate of reappearance of platelet cyclooxygenase activity following oral aspirin was recently developed in our laboratories. The method was applied to apparently healthy subjects as well as to patients with ischemic cerebrovascular disease. The mean regeneration half time in the former group was 5.2 ± 0.15 (S.E.M.) days (n=11) and in the latter group, 4.2 ± 0.21 (S.E.M.) days (n=11). The difference between the two groups was statistically significant (p < 0.01). |
