Abstract: | In the management of ankle joint fractures, re-duction and fixation of the lateral malleolus shouldbe emphasized. The lateral maUeolus should haveanatomical reduction and fixation should be reliable. Fibular integrity is essential in stabilizing theankle joint. Routine section of the fibula may resultin separation of the inferior tibiofibular joint, ankleinstability and talus displacement. Eventually thisleads to traumatic arthritis. So special attentionshould be paid to fibular resection, even partialremoval of the fibula for transplantation should becarried out carefully. |
