Abstract:
The present study was designed to investigate the hippocampus injury in response to focal brain trauma. Neuron damage in the cortex and the hippocampus (CA-1) was assessed quantitatively with light microscope through a cerebral contusion model of rat. The necrotic neuron in hippocampus regestered 36.70% 6 h after injury and increased to 77. 85% 24 h following trauma. However, no additional damage was observed 72 and 168 hours after trauma. The results suggest that the characteristic injury in the hippocampus (CA-1) may constitute an important pathological factor contributing to hypomnesia and learning disorder following the brain trauma.
